You Tosser!
Posted by charley on July 5th, 2008Last week i discovered that even though i have two left hands, if that is even possible, i can flip pancakes! I had been craving the sugary goodness of chocolate and litres of Sprite for a week, surprisingly not being able to satisfy my addiction in London, so Simon helped me to indulge in an unhealthy dessert by bringing home a huge bar of Cadbury chocolate, a box of pancake mix with golden syrup, and two big bottles of Sprite! For this i was eternally grateful and managed to finish all but two pieces of my pasta and Quorn to allow a little space for my treat.

As Simon’s housemate wisely stated “There’s always time for pancakes”, i got excited and my mouth began to water thinking of all the crazy ingredients i could fill my pancake with.. Shaking my head out of the daydream i decided Marmite would not taste brilliant, but how awesome would melting the chocolate be?! So as i got on with mixing the ingredients, pleased with myself that i managed to add egg without shell, Simon heated some chocolate in the microwave. Result? One caramelised Chemistry Society mug, how ironic. The kitchen was full with clouds of cough inducing smoke and my eyes stung with the the realisation that half the chocolate was gone forever. Oh life, why must you be so cruel? Then the tossing began…the pancake tossing that is. I tried shaking it around the pan at first, working up to a final arm thrusting flip making the pancake spin 180 and calmly slip back into the pan, resting perfectly in the centre. “9.8!!” hollered the judges and the crowd went wild, chanting for more of Charley’s skills.. OK that didn’t happen, and Simon wasn’t even looking so i celebrated my small victory on my own. Next it was Simon’s turn and as he matched my tossing skills i couldn’t help but feel a small part of my triumph had been taken away, oh well i suppose there’s bigger..pancakes..to toss?
My pancake eventually was covered in sweet lines of golden syrup, chocolate and sugar, and we sat down to give in to the tasty treat. And it was gooooood.
