Smoothie
Posted by charley on July 5th, 2008Man i love smoothies, and i reckon i had my fair share of them at the Innocent Village Fete in Regents Park this weekend.
The people at Innocent had pretty much hired out an entire corner of the park and decorated it with village fete style bunting and various activities. I was fed up of being stuck in doors after so much rain in Lincolnshire, so
was very happy when the London sky was full of glorious sunshine for the whole weekend and looked forward to changing my milk bottle skin to a lovely golden brown! Getting to the park turned out to be an adventure, walking through the middle of it and over a few streets, eventually getting to the gates and claiming our tickets.
Once inside the fete we were spoilt for choice, there was so much to do! Duck herding, welly wanging, dog agility, maypole dancing, morris dancers, 4 music areas, and loads more. Unfortunately we arrived too late for the duck herding (of which the disappointment matched that of being refused a lanyard at Somerset House) but the ferret racing seemed interesting. I was especially pleased that the first thing i saw were two massive yellow flags advertising Vegetarian food! Usually there’s plenty of burger vans and hot dog stands leaving the predictable egg sarnies to the veggies; but no! there were falafel stands, salad bars, and even the Mexican chilli stand had its own vegetable enchiladas. Chomping on a veggie burger i sat on the grass, checking whether the milk bottles had tanned or not, and read the mini booklet on the lanyards we received in our way in (woo hoo i finally got one!).
Innocent prides itself on being an ethical and sustainable company, as well as providing healthy 100% fruit smoothies for our tummies to enjoy! They told me in the mini booklet that they make sure their ingredients come from plantations that look after their workers and associate with the Rainforest Alliance to make sure that happens, 10% of their profits go to the Innocent Foundation to help community based projects and the other 90% goes to the following charities:
- Well Child
- Friends of the Earth
- Samaritans
I suppose you’ve been hearing a lot about these bloody carbon footprints leaving mucky tracks all over Britain too, well Innocent are doing something about it. They’ve been work
ing with the Carbon Trust to work out their footprint for their entire business system, which is enabling them to cut down their biggest emissions. The whole fete was also run on recyclable Biodiesel, made from substances such as chip fat, which caused my dads car to smell like a burger van for a while when he was using it! I’m not some hippy with dreadlocks rolling a big fat one, but I’m all for making the world a better place. Talking about recycling we got to make our very own tree out of newspapers! Which was very exciting..
So all in all i loved the fete and the freebies that came with it, and even gave my little legs a head start on that wonderful tan I’ve always wanted. Still got a long way to go though, sigh.
