boot-y
Posted by charley on July 5th, 2008Aren’t car boots so much fun? Well no, not really. I found this out yesterday when my cousin and i set off to Baytree to try and sell all of our crap!
The sale was due to open at 12pm so we headed off in the early hours (well actually 10am but come on, I’m a student!) so as to get plenty of time to set our stall up. We had heard that it was going to rain, but so far the weather was fine albeit a little windy. It took us 45 minutes to even get onto the field as we were queued up ready! Plenty of setting up time lost there..

Now I’m not a snob, but out of everyone there the majority were chavs and foreigners! Or even worse..foreigners who are chavs. Everyone was scouting for a bargain, even £2 for a pair of shoes was too much for some! We had hardly put anything out and already people were rooting around the clothes racks and CD bags. We started off quite well, getting rid of a few bits and pieces for measly prices, but then the heavens opened. And bloody open they did! At first we covered our junk with some plastic sheets and retired to the car to eat lunch and drink my 2 litre bottle of lemonade (which i am sure i left there by mistake). 15 minutes later the rain was still pouring and i became a little more irritated when i realised the child locks were on in the back of the car, making me have to climb to the front baring arse to all.
People started packing up but we stayed strong! Braving the cold and rain we tried to sell our things under covers but by then it was too late..we were defeated. With our tails between our legs we shoved everything into the car and slowly made our way home, cold and soaking wet. Back home we counted up our pennies, feeling better about the situation when we found we had made almost £20 each. Not bad for a couple of hours work! So we’re having another go tomorrow, hopefully the weather will hold out, but it’s not promising anything.
